How to Secure an Instagram Account:
1. Secure the OGE if provided
OGE is important as it was the first email associated with the Instagram account.
2. Change the password
Login to the Instagram account, access settings, head to Accounts Center and navigate to the password section. Create a strong password.
3. Remove any 2FA that is not yours
Go to settings, select security, and access the two-factor authentication section. Generate new backup codes and keep them safe.
4. Update the email and phone number associated with the account
if it doesn't come with OGE or if you prefer using your own. Edit the profile, go to personal information settings, update the email and phone number, and confirm them through verification messages.
5. Disconnect any linked Facebook or Business accounts
Go to settings, access the Meta Accounts Center, and remove linked accounts under "Sharing across profiles" and "Logging in with accounts".
6. Log out all active devices that are not yours
Access settings, select security, and navigate to the "Security checks" section. Remove any sessions that are not familiar.
Additional Tips
- Verify whether the OGE is correct by downloading the Account Data.
- Check for any warnings or security alerts in the recent emails section.
- Remove any payment methods in the Payment settings through profile menu.
